Chapter 10 That Unexplainable Power

Serena Weisse stepped out of the limousine and into the bar, there was a blank expression on her face as she clutched her purse.

The sycophants that greeted her by the door were something she was used to by now and she barely batted an eye.

However, as she entered the bar and was greeted by its owner–she suddenly felt a charge in the air.

She didn\'t know how to explain it except as something magnetic.

There was a hint of strange power that she couldn\'t quite explain. Her expression morphed into that with emotions and she suddenly felt her throat parchen as if she was thirsty.

"Miss Weisse, is there an issue?" Vampire Jones asked her.

Serena Weisse\'s gaze flickered across the bar in search of the source of the magnetic feeling but couldn\'t find it. Was it only her imagination? Perhaps. It was rare for there to be someone whose presence was incredible enough that she\'d detect them.

She pursed her lips and shook her head to answer the question of the bar owner. "None."

"Then the meeting room is on the second floor as always, Miss Weisse. The guildmaster of the Hunter Association is already there alongside the council members of the city." Vampire Jones gestured to the stairs.

"Thank you." Serena Weisse nodded and then left for her destination.

There were far more important issues than the sensation Serena felt–the stake of the Vampires\' peaceful existence was at risk. She needed to focus on that instead of the strange feeling that pricked her.

"Ah, if it isn\'t the Young Miss Weisse." an old man laughed once Serena stepped inside of the private meeting room. "You look lovely as always."

Her eyes flickered at him and she gave a small curtsy. "Greetings, Guildmaster."

"How cold. I\'ve seen you even when you were a small wee child, why not come over here and give me a kiss–"

"Pardon me, but we don\'t have much time for needless pleasantries here." The dark brown haired man seated at the center looked over at the gray haired Vampire.

The speaker\'s intimidating appearance was second to none, a large scar visible across his face, but the guildmaster barely batted an eye.

"Lawrence, the situation calls for a little more lightheartedness. Or else, what\'s the use of being long-lived such as I?"

"We have much to discuss." Lawrence said plainly.

Serena Weisse nodded her head slightly in agreement. "Indeed, I agree with the council head. The reports coming back from the Hunter Association have been showing an increase of Vampire deaths."

"Bah! The Vampire youth here have been terrible recruits. They\'ve grown soft with our utopia, so it makes sense why many die," The old Guildmaster rolled his eyes and folded his hands together. "I still think we should just let the weak die and gather the strong from them."

"And this is the reason why you did not win during the elections." Lawrence folded his hands together. "If there\'s anything that we can learn from our greatest enemies, it is that by forming large groups we can achieve great things."

"The weak flock together to experience a magnitude of what the strong can achieve." The Guildmaster said. "Do you not agree with me, Miss Weisse?"

Serena Weisse sighed inwardly. It was frustrating when they asked her opinion on matters–as if her sole opinion could change things.

"I do not think that this is the proper time to discuss and debate on ideologies–we have to investigate if there is a reason why the death rate of the Hunters has taken a great toll. Even if they are rookies–they are still Vampires."

"That\'s true–have they discovered how to utilize solar magic again?"

"No, impossible. It must be some kind of technological warfare."

"It\'s useless trying to guess when we can just see it for ourselves."

"And how do you propose we do that?"

"How about we just attack one of their metropolises and take over? Having an entire city hostage is a far more effective bargaining chip compared to their small villages."

"Some of their leaders are as cold hearted as us. They won\'t bat an eye over it."

"If we have to choose a city, it\'s the one that holds their most vital technologies as well as individuals that are dear to them."

"Well, it\'s clear to me that we\'ll just have to select a great team that will be able to infiltrate one of their cities then." Guildmaster Verdant finally spoke up with a flick of his hand, a laissez faire look in his eyes.

"A great team? Losing them would be tantamount to–"

"That\'s why the recruitment in Hunter Association has been at its highest." The Guildmaster said. "But don\'t worry, I\'ve seen two great candidates today. One of them has been the child of the former elite duo that served our city well."

"Former elite duo?"

"Yes, I am referring to one of the children of the late Atticus couple, Chaerin Atticus–I spotted her snooping around my guild."

"And the other one?" Serena Weisse couldn\'t help but lick her lips. This wasn\'t mere coincidence was it? Her heart pounded for the first time in what seemed to be two decades.

"I don\'t know how we didn\'t spot this one earlier." the guildmaster laughed. "It was almost like he suddenly just unlocked his powers for the first time–we would have known from the start since we keep tabs on everyone, but this kid? The potential is unlike anything I\'ve seen in the recent century. Maybe even since the Great War."
