Chapter 333 Assassin's Attack
Wang Chao savored his tea, listening to the sound of Shen Bing cooking in the kitchen. He felt that this slow-paced, non-life-threatening time was quite enjoyable. If he had a beautiful wife at home and one more child, life would be complete.
"I wonder what my master is thinking. It\'s been almost a month, and he still hasn\'t assigned me a mission," Wang Chao thought as he took out his phone to contact his master.
However, he couldn\'t reach his master on the phone either.
Feeling helpless, Wang Chao had to end the call and idly play with his phone.
Since Shen Bing was already cooking, it would be impolite to leave at this time. He could only wait for Shen Bing to finish cooking, have a meal, and then return home.
Besides, Shen Bing wasn\'t some terrifying beast. It was just a meal; he wasn\'t afraid that she would devour him.
As he scrolled through his WeChat Moments, Wang Chao didn\'t come across anything significant. It was just posts from his siblings, Wang Zuxian, Yang Mi, Liu Yifei, and others.
He pondered for a moment and finally opened his long-forgotten QQ account.
Eight years ago, his QQ number had eight digits, and the numbers were quite auspicious. Over the years, he had always been logged in as invisible, without contacting anyone.
Moreover, there were many old classmates\' numbers in his QQ.
Opening the QQ space, he found countless updates.
Wang Chao was patient and started reading them one by one.
After finishing reading, he became melancholic.
Eight years had brought about such massive changes!
Some classmates had finished high school and moved on to university, completed their undergraduate studies, continued with postgraduate studies, and were still in school.
Some had just graduated from university and were looking for jobs.
Some had failed in their entrepreneurial endeavors and were under tremendous pressure, even contemplating suicide.
And some classmates had left school after the college entrance examination, hastily entered the workforce, quickly got married, had children, and faced even more difficult lives.
Most of these classmates hadn\'t attended the recent gathering, so Wang Chao hadn\'t seen them in person.
Looking at the QQ space, Wang Chao came across many classmates who already had children, posing for family portraits while holding their little ones. It stirred up emotions within him.
Time truly was a sharp weapon!
In just eight years, everything had changed.
Especially seeing the matured appearances of those classmates, he felt that they were completely different from the youthful individuals in his memories.
If they were to walk on the street, he wouldn\'t recognize them at all.
"Time has changed so much. Those spirited youngsters from the past, now they are all struggling for their lives."
"I\'m afraid they don\'t even remember their dreams from before, right?"
Wang Chao sighed with mixed emotions.
He scrolled through carefully and saw many classmates crying about being poor every day. Some even messaged him, expressing thoughts of suicide. Some complained about high prices, and others bemoaned their inability to afford housing.
Life\'s myriad facets were vividly displayed in the QQ space.
Of course, there were also some classmates who did not like to express their inner emotions and kept everything hidden in their hearts. They didn\'t post anything in their Moments, and he couldn\'t see them either.
"Old classmates, if you need anything, feel free to reach out to me. I can help."
"Ou, if you need help with your child\'s education, I should be able to assist you. Contact me as soon as possible."
"Luo, it\'s been so long since we last saw each other, and you\'re still so beautiful. If you need any help with your husband\'s business, I can lend a hand. Find me if you need anything."
Wang Chao thought for a moment, his heart softened, and he left comments on the spaces of those classmates who were not doing well.
Back in high school, he, Song Henian, and Pei Donghu were best buddies, although not very close to the others.
However, now that he had achieved success, out of the camaraderie with his classmates, he felt that if he could help, he should try his best to do so.
"Brother Wang, the dish is ready."
At that moment, Shen Bing walked out of the kitchen with a plate of fragrant braised pork. It looked and smelled delicious, with an excellent presentation.
She placed the braised pork in front of Wang Chao and said, "Quick, taste it and see if it\'s good."
Then, she handed him a pair of chopsticks.
Wang Chao didn\'t hesitate and took the chopsticks, picked up a piece of meat, and carefully chewed and savored it.
"How is it?" Shen Bing looked at Wang Chao, her eyes filled with anticipation, like a child waiting for praise after finishing homework.
Wang Chao hadn\'t expected that Shen Bing, who always seemed superior and managed thousands of people, had such an adorable side. His heart couldn\'t help but skip a beat.
Wearing an apron, cooking, and waiting for evaluation, Shen Bing was beautiful, lovely, and gave off a feeling of being a virtuous wife and mother. She instantly captivated Wang Chao\'s heart.
Why didn\'t I notice this side of her when I was abroad?
While eating the braised pork, Wang Chao pondered in his heart. After finishing the piece of meat, he praised, "It\'s fatty but not greasy, refreshing and delicious, and the flavor is particularly fragrant. I never expected President Shen to cook such a fantastic dish. It\'s delicious!"
"Really?"
"Really!"
Wang Chao put down his chopsticks, nodded sincerely, and said, "This dish is even more delicious than what my mom cooks."
"Thank you!"
Upon hearing this, Shen Bing\'s heart blossomed with joy.
This compliment was the highest level of praise for her cooking.
She exclaimed with delight, "The rice is ready. I\'ll serve you a bowl of rice later, and there\'s also a stir-fried tomato and egg dish and blanched vegetable hearts."
After saying that, she put away the used chopsticks, brought a bowl of rice, and a new pair of chopsticks to Wang Chao.
After completing these tasks, she returned to the kitchen to continue cooking.
While making the tomato and egg dish, she used the chopsticks to taste the flavor. Suddenly, she froze.
The chopsticks Wang Chao had used were in her mouth just now. Does that mean they indirectly kissed?
Thinking about this, her face turned crimson, and her heart fluttered with shyness.
She continued cooking while taking deep breaths, adjusting her emotions, and trying to regain her composure.
Even to distract herself, she multitasked and used two pots to cook the tomato and egg dish and blanched vegetable hearts together.
After about fifteen minutes, Shen Bing brought the two dishes over and placed them in front of Wang Chao. Smiling, she asked, "Brother Wang, are these three dishes enough?"
"They\'re more than enough. Please sit down and eat with me," Wang Chao quickly replied.
With braised pork and so many dishes, there was no way he could finish them alone.
"Wait a moment. How can a Cantonese meal be fulfill without soup? I\'ll quickly make a simple seaweed egg drop soup," Shen Bing said.
After saying that, she returned to the kitchen and turned up the heat to make the soup.
Ten minutes later, she brought the soup in a large porcelain bowl and placed it in front of Wang Chao. She also served herself a bowl of rice, sat across from Wang Chao, and started eating.
"Here, President Shen, you\'ve worked hard cooking. Have a piece of meat," Wang Chao uttered as he picked up a piece of braised pork and put it in Shen Bing\'s bowl.
"Thank you," Shen Bing said.
Seeing Wang Chao\'s chopsticks, she remembered the indirect kiss incident again. Her face blushed slightly, but she still accepted it and put it in her mouth.
"President Shen, your cooking is so good. You should cook more in the future. That way, there will be liveliness and warmth in the room, making it feel like a home," Wang Chao uttered while eating.
Upon hearing this, Shen Bing\'s eyes turned slightly red.
She also wanted a home and the liveliness and warmth that came with it. However, her mother had passed away, her father had disappeared, and her younger brother was critically ill abroad.
For so many years, she had been alone. Even having someone serve her food was the first time in years.
Thinking about this, sorrow overwhelmed her, and tears uncontrollably flowed.
The scalding tears ran down her exquisite face and fell into her bowl of rice.
"What\'s wrong? Did I say something wrong?" Wang Chao was taken aback.
"It\'s nothing. I just remembered some unpleasant things. I\'m sorry, Brother Wang, for making you see this," Shen Bing quickly regained control of her emotions, wiped her tears, and continued eating with a choked voice.
Seeing her like this, Wang Chao felt a bit guilty and uncomfortable.
If only he had known, he shouldn\'t have uttered so much earlier.
While he was struggling to figure out how to comfort Shen Bing, suddenly, all the lights in the villa went out, and the entire living room plunged into darkness.
"Who\'s there?"
Outside, Zhang Long\'s angry roar could be heard.
Immediately after, gunshots rang out outside, along with shouts and yells, indicating that Zhang Long was fighting with someone.
"Quick, everyone listen up! Seal all the doors and windows and protect President Shen!"
"President Shen, run!"
Zhang Long\'s voice echoed, but before he could finish speaking, a muffled sound of a fist hitting his chest followed by the sound of blood spraying and his body falling into the water.
"Hmm?" Wang Chao\'s expression turned cold.
Someone had come to attack?
"Uncle Long."
Upon hearing that voice, Shen Bing also snapped out of it. She no longer dared to continue being sad and looked outside with a worried and alert expression.
Bang!
Just at that moment, a bullet shattered the glass and aimed for Shen Bing\'s forehead, approaching swiftly like lightning.
