Chapter 62: Boss (3)

Chapter 62: Boss (3)

After resting for a while, the group woke up around midnight. It was time to check the shop, after all. Thanks to all that fighting, Luke had more than ten thousand gold coins, so he could buy a sword that was three tiers above his current one, but instead of a weapon, he wanted a useful skill book. However, he didn’t find anything good at first, probably because the tomes also were divided into tiers.

Earth Bullet: 1000 gold coins.

Ice Needle: 1000 gold coins.

Fireball: 1000 gold coins.

Power Shot: 2000 gold coins.

Impact: 2000 gold coins.

Mana Bolt: 2000 gold coins.

“So, even skill books are divided into tiers, huh,” Luke said.

“That is right, and as you can see, their prices escalate much more than weapons or accessories,” Shalia nodded.

Still, Luke could buy a tier four skill book in the end. However, it would be wiser to buy several of the low-tier ones to make them level up and gain status points. However, Luke changed his mind when he saw the skill Swordsmanship. It was a passive one and cost four thousand gold coins. The skill increased his damage while using swords by three percent per level… it would be easier to level up since Luke was also using his Frozen Claymore. Even though Luke never planned to keep using one as a main weapon, it was starting to feel natural. If he buys that one, Luke won’t have the chance to buy a tier four skill book… However, after checking that list, he didn’t find anything that interested him for the time being. That being said, Luke found another skill book that seemed interesting, and it was perfect for him since he liked skills that granted him mobility.

Flying Kick Skillbook

It grants you the power to move toward the enemy in a single motion while preparing a mid-air kick.

Cost: 02 SP

Distance: 05 meters per level.

Cost: 4000 gold coins.

In the end, Luke bought both skill books. While he actually didn’t need Flying Kick since Stinger could do the same thing, he thought that it would be wiser to have a trump card in case his hands get restrained, or he loses his sword in a fight. Besides, while Stinger was pretty cool, Flying Kick was cooler. It made Luke recall some old fighting games… Besides, while he flies ready to deliver a flying kick, his hands will be free to hold two swords. He also will risk damaging his legs against a smart opponent, though.

Once that was done, Luke was left with twenty-five hundred coins, enough to buy a sword better than his current one. The sword style was rather difficult to master, but Luke decided to check the weapons section anyway. The next sword was another claymore, but that one had a burning effect that caused five extra points of damage over time on the target for three seconds. It didn’t seem that much useful against zombies, but against living creatures sure would be useful, making them feel pain even after the strike. Even though a wound would already hurt for a while…

Claymore of Flames

Causes five points of extra damage for three seconds. This effect can stack.

STR + 9, INT + 5

Durability: 35/35

Luke bought the weapon and nodded to himself in satisfaction while looking at the red claymore.

“Can I level up skills outside combat?” Luke asked. “Wait, I have a feeling that I already asked that…”

“… Me too, but I can’t remember when,” Rina frowned. “Nevertheless, it is possible, but it takes a lot more time.”

“If I were you, I would conserve your stamina for the fights,” Shalia added. “Repetition training is rather boring, after all.”

Rina didn’t disagree with Shalia. It was pretty rare. So, she was also thinking along the same lines. Besides, Luke had already fought too much in the last three days, and his pace wouldn’t decrease. It was better to use those rare moments of peace to rest.

When Luke looked toward the other, he confirmed that everyone had new gear and they were fully protected. All of their equipment was at least tier four, so they didn’t have to worry about monsters for a while. As long as they fight daily, they will have the upper hand against most of the enemies.

Nevertheless, the night had been quite a noise with the coming and leaving of the choppers, but at least everyone managed to sleep a little. When morning came, Luke was surprised to see Amanda and the others taking their things from the pickup; it seemed that they wanted to leave the vehicle with Luke.

“Thanks for the help, Luke… and I am sorry for the troubles I caused,” Amanda said.

“You will need the pickup to carry the radio transmitter, so we will leave it with you,” Celia added.

“Is that so,” Luke crossed his arms and then said.

“Truth to be told, we would like to help you finding the family of your friend, but it is clear that you don’t want our help,” Amanda said. “Perhaps you don’t need it.”

“You are absolutely right,” Luke nodded.

“… Your attitude could have some work, though,” Amanda said after she twitched her eyebrows. “Anyway, we are going to look for survivors in the small cities and towns of the area.”

“If you need our help with something, you can use Rina to locate Luthi and thus find us,” Celia said. “I wish you luck.”

“Take care, son,” Stanley said and then patted Luke’s right shoulder.

“I would he your son in law, if your daughter had some discerning eyes, it is a pity, huh,” Luke said.

“Yes, it is a pity,” Stanley said and then laughed.

“Dad…” Amanda said, visibly annoyed.

The group didn’t have time to waste since it would take a while before they could find a vehicle, so they soon began to walk. After a while, they turned around and then waved their hands.
