Chapter 137: Choice (5)

Chapter 137: Choice (5)

“In any case, that was refreshing… that guy was a small fry compared to the real deal, but I finally succeeded in taking down one of those assholes,” Shalia said.

“Don’t get carried away just because we defeated one of the grunts,” Rina said.

Once again, Luke took to his heart the opinion of those two. While he leveled up only fifteen times for defeating an enemy much, much stronger than him, he was satisfied with it since he didn’t do it alone. Regardless, he was a bit curious about the cloaked figure, but Luke wasn’t planning to involve himself with Billy and Frank any further.

When the airplane landed, Luke immediately left it and then looked for his parents. He couldn’t just leave and let them stay at such a place, where even one of their best friends was a compulsive liar. In any case, he found them a little further away from the camp, because he saw his mother practicing a combination of Wind Sphere and Arcnine’s Flamethrower. Their combination created a sphere of fire that exploded in contact and right now it had an area of effect of five square meters, so it could decimate more than a few zombies.

“Ah, Luke!” Julia said and then hugged her son. “You returned sooner than I expected. Did you see that? Combining magic is quite fun!”

“I guess so,” Luke said while forcing a smile.

“What is wrong?” Mark asked. “You looked a bit angry, did something happen? You always keep frowning when you try to stay cool when something is bothering you.”

Even though he didn’t ask for an explanation as to why his father noticed that, Luke received one. In any case, he explained to them what happened. He didn’t hide anything from them because Luke wanted to hear their opinions regarding the situation.

“I see… considering all that, it is safe to assume that the cloaked figure you mentioned is another one of those beings that can use Crystals,” Mark said. “Instead of summoning monsters, someone made that person cross to this side.”

Luke didn’t think of that and when he looked at Rina and Shalia, they nodded in agreement. The crystal was probably hidden in the mountains for no one, even monsters to find. Since only a single being used it, it would be near impossible to find it in such a place. The question was: why would aliens try to help Frank? How is he able to communicate with them like that?

“I guess it is that… elves and dark elves aren’t the only ones who came to Earth in search of allies,” Rina said. “Someone chose Frank as a partner… and we can’t feel its presence in any way.”

That was quite worrisome… that creatures that couldn’t be perceived were helping other humans. Still, it was hard to tell if someone troublesome was helping Frank, the cloaked figure helped Luke by sending mana to Rina and Shalia, after all. But in the end, he couldn’t forget that they did that only because it was the only way to defeat the gorilla-like monster and survive.

“As you can see, Dad, we can’t stay here…” Luke said. “We will only be used and hear allies for whatever reason. We should move away and create our own camp.”

“I can see where you are coming from, but…” Mark rubbed his chin thoughtfully.

“I get it, you made an oath and all that, but you can still protect the country and help people somewhere else…” Luke said. “I probably won’t be able to help forever, but I will try my best to build the foundation of a place where you can do what you want to help others.”

“What is with you, so suddenly?” Mark frowned. “While you are a teen and it is rather normal for you to be self-centered, this sudden change is weird.”

“Wait a minute… just thinking about saying this out loud makes my back itchy,” Luke said and then scratched his back. “While I don’t want to go out there and save people like someone with a hero complex, I don’t mind helping my family. Besides, I know that this situation is going to stay for a while, so some preparations to avoid problems are necessary. I want a base that won’t collapse any time soon and that can be easy to defend from enemies from the ground and that can fly. With those, I am sure that you two will be safe, even if I stay away for a few weeks or months.”

“Did you hear that, Julia?” Mark asked. “Your son is giving me goosebumps while being so reasonable and while also looking down on us. I suppose from a kid’s perspective, anyone over forty is already a fossil.”

“Don’t exaggerate, while you both act goofy most of the time, I know who you two think seriously about many things,” Julia said. “In any case, I suppose we can’t stay here if the important things are being kept hidden from us. Do you want to come with us?”

Luke frowned since it seemed like his mother was asking that to him, but she was asking the people behind him. Amanda and Celia are still there. They followed him without him realizing it…

“I am not comfortable here anymore, but I am not sure Luke would want to keep working with us…” Amanda said.

“You lost all of your confidence, huh,” Celia said.

Amanda wanted to protest, but she couldn’t because Celia was right and it wasn’t time for their antics. In any case, Luke wasn’t planning to build a decent bass with three people alone that would take too much time.

“Sure, you can come,” Luke said. “I was planning to take Jennifer’s group with me and anyone who wants to follow my parents Anyway.”

“I see… I will talk with my parents about it,” Amanda said and then left.

“Me too, I guess this is going to be fun,” Celia said.
