Chapter 181: Road to Liga NOS Champions 2019/20 VIII
After the fifteen minutes allocated for rest, the two teams were back on the field and the second half kicked off.
The Porto team immediately took control of the game once again looking to continue from where they left off, but the Boavista team fought back and sent shots flying at the Porto goal every chance they got.
It seemed like their manager had said to them that if the Porto team could score three goals in the first half, then they could do the same in the second half.
Thus the Boavista team defended well and attacked at any chance that appeared, but despite their efforts, the scoreboard remained unchanged until the 74th minute when Porto launched a counter-attack and Wilson Manafa rifled in a shot from long range into the back of the Boavista goal taking the Porto lead even further.
Porto 4 : 0 Boaviasta
At this point, the Boavista team lost all their previous momentum due to their crashing morale.
They were already utterly swept away and no matter their efforts, they would only be rewarded with a consolation goal at most, but even that was not allowed them by the Porto team.
The Porto defense got to work and kept them away while the rest of the players applied heavy pressure on the Boavista team.Porto got close to extending their lead two more times in the minutes that followed.
A shot from Moussa Marega had bounced off the left post before it had been cleared in the 81st minute and in the 86th minute, Shoya Nakajima who had come on as a sub had missed a one-on-one with the Boavista goalkeeper, his shot going just narrowly wide when he had tried to curl it around the goalkeeper.
Finally, the last whistle was blown and the match came to an end with the score of Porto 4 : 0 Boaviasta.
With that, the match against the Boavista team was concluded with a Porto win and a very dominant win at that.
They had racked up the score and managed to even get a clean sheet.
Every Porto player and fan was happy with the result while those on the Boavista side were distraught.
The Boavista fans especially wished they could be swallowed underground for a week because they were the team with the biggest loss that weekend and they would never hear the end of it from fans of other teams.
They couldn’t even dare to engage in any football arguments for the coming week until this shame was washed away by having another team to laugh at, only then could they dare to raise their heads even a little bit.
The Boavista players would have to endure being chewed out by the manager, while the manager would have to live in constant fear and agony for the coming days, not sure if his job was on the line or not.
All in all, everyone on the Boavista side would not have a good time in the coming week, but none of that concerned Jason in the slightest.
He was just happy that his suspension was over and he could get back on the field, he had a lot of pent-up feelings to let out, and what better place to unleash them than on a wide expanse of green?
There was also an extra bit of good news for the Porto fans that weekend which was that the Benfica side had lost another match, this time to Sporting CP, and thus were now five points behind the Porto team.
This had given the Porto team some breathing room and the Porto players, fans, staff, and management were overjoyed as this would help them a lot in their title race which was slowly coming to a conclusion.
There were only six games left in the Liga NOS 2019/20 season and with Porto taking a five-point lead at this point, the possibility of them coming out on top as league leaders had been almost completely solidified.
There were a few tough games left against Sporting CP and Braga, but as long as the Porto team stayed focused, they should be able to get a good result against those guys and end the season as the champions.
The Porto fans were already preparing themselves for the overnight celebration that would take place on the day their beloved team would be crowned champions.
It could be said that their confidence was bold and overflowing and that resonated with the players who were dishing out good performances.
**29 June 2020**
The Porto team bus arrived at the Estadio da Mata Real for their match against Pacos de Ferreira and the players got down from the bus with their bags and headed into the stadium, the cameras flashing nonstop as the players walked into the stadium.
Jason was among the players who had arrived for the match against Pacos de Ferreira and he walked into the stadium with his teammates, flashing a smile at one of the beautiful photographers before heading into the stadium grounds with his boys.
Soon the players were out on the field for a pre-match warm-up but surprisingly Jason was wearing a bib over his training vest as he warmed up with his teammates.
This was because of a sudden discovery when he had done a match fitness test a few days ago.
The manager had made all the players undergo a match fitness test and then it was discovered that Jason’s numbers were a bit below what was expected which prompted a few further checks and then it was discovered that Jason’s ankle was actually still healing from the strain in the match against Desportivo das Aves.
Due to the constant fouls, Jason had sustained an ankle injury that he hadn’t really paid much attention to because it only throbbed a bit from time to time.
Apparently, it was almost a sprain, but due to him just shaking it off and not paying attention to it since he could move just fine, no one had noticed till the match fitness test.
