MMORPG: Divine Mech Hunter

Chapter 89 - 89: Upgrade Plan

After ending the call, Li Yao immediately logged in and found the flight manager.

Currently, players are under level ten and don’t have the right to use flight transport.

However, Li Yao flashed the queen’s insignia, and the issue was resolved.

Although he can now use the bat, it’s still quite an expensive mode of transport for average players. In his past life, players didn’t commonly used flight transport until they reached around level twenty.

Li Yao didn’t care about spending a few silver coins, so he paid promptly and rode a tamed giant bat.

Now, Li Yao couldn’t control his mount and could only ride on it. The bat had a preset route to his destination. With nothing else to do, Li Yao spent the time watching live-streams.

The bat’s speed was fast, flitting straight on its course. It only took two hours for Li Yao to reach Sephercher.

This place was originally a large burial ground, a sort of royal cemetery. Now, it had become the undead’s most important stronghold in Silverpine Forest.

Li Yao could still see gravestones everywhere. All the civic buildings, everything was a tomb for some noble.

The noble tombs were grandly built, but now they were serving as functional buildings.

Even so, Sephercher was not very lively at the moment. There were players, but not a lot, because the monsters in Silverpine Forest start at level seven.

Li Yao found the Great Alchemist in charge of the place and gathered information about the outposts.

Examining the intel, Li Yao furrowed his brow. The outpost was held by at least a thousand Rot Hide gnolls, many of them elites, and some even bosses.

These gnolls were low level at around level eleven. Despite his high attributes, it would be virtually impossible for him to take the outpost by himself.

The situation at Faselin Academy couldn’t be duplicated; the outpost had no special conditions.

“Yaozi, you there yet? I’m bored out of my mind.” Li Yao had already added

Zhao Lei to his friends in the game. Crimsontide God was Zhao Lei’s game ID,

Li Yao spoke while walking, “I’ve already left the gates of Sephercher. Where are you?”

“I’m hiding on a small hill in the forest north of Sephercher. Darn it, it’s too risky, your faction’s players can appear at any moment.” grumbled Zhao Lei.

“What are you worried about? Both factions are in their honeymoon phase. Even if you walked up to the guards in Sephercher they’d only chase you away, not kill you. And players are all busy leveling up. Unless necessary, no one would waste their time killing others.”

Li Yao explained, he certainly knew about the peace treaty the two factions had just signed, and how they had jointly dealt with a strong enemy. It was currently their honeymoon phase, both factions were restrained, there was barely any friction.

As for the players, except for a few extremely confident or advantaged ones, no one would risk their level.

Everyone was rushing to reach level ten, due to further adaptation to the Free Mode, the efficiency of leveling up had increased greatly compared to the beginning of the game.

The level ten main storyline dungeon was like a big pie, attracting countless players.

As they met, Li Yao asked, “So what were you supposed to kill? And how did you die?”

“Don’t talk about it. The old geezer that gave me the quest must have done it on purpose. The boss was horrendous, there was no way I could kill it.” complained Zhao Lei.

Li Yao felt a headache coming on and quickly interjected, “I get it, the boss was hard to kill, but I’m asking for its name.”

“The Son of Grugh. And it was a boss-level monster. Its level marker was a skull, so I had no idea how many levels it was above me.” Zhao Lei answered, sounding dejected.

Pfft…

Li Yao almost spat out blood in disbelief, “Are you sure? You were up against the Son of Grugh. And it was boss-level?”

The Son of Grugh was also notoriously fierce and a killer of low-level players, but low-level players could do nothing about it.

Grugh was once a mage of the Magic Kingdom of Dalaran but, unable to bear being outperformed, he started studying dark magic aiming to cut corners for power.

Eventually, he obtained a forbidden object. Using it, he summoned cursed werewolves from the Moon God. These werewolves, combined with the curse that spread like plague, were hard even for him to control – not that he wanted to control them in the first place.

He then built Shadowfang Castle, spreading the werewolf curse to the entire Kingdom of Gilneas through it.

This is the origin of the werewolf race in the Light Faction. Grugh was the number one enemy of Gilneas, and he really held a grudge. He hid in Shadowfang Castle and became a Great Mage. Also, with countless powerful werewolves by his side, there was nothing Gilneas could do.

The Son of Grugh wasn’t Grugh’s actual child but a mutant werewolf he summoned. These werewolves were gifted with the power of shadows, making them quite eerie.

Because they were powerful creatures, Grugh sent them to Silverpine Forest to gain control of the land.

The Sons of Grugh were at least level twenty-five, and there were no regular monsters, only elites. There were even level thirty boss-level monsters.

Leaving aside these strange werewolves, even a regular boss was ridiculous. Zhao Lei was only level five right now. Trying to challenge a level twenty-five monster was basically asking for death.

Level twenty-five elites or bosses wandering in an area where the average monster level was around ten was already a nightmare for the players who bumped into them.

So in Li Yao’s previous life, the Son of Grugh was known as the most despair-inducing low-level killer.

“I’m sure of it. That guy said if I can obtain the heart of the boss-level Son of Grugh, I can complete the quest.” Zhao Lei shared the information for his quest.

Li Yao was speechless. It was clear this was an elite quest, and the quest warned that normal methods would not be applicable to the monster. Zhao Lei was clearly expected to use strategy.

“Your quest still has ten days. Don’t worry.” Li Yao took out a map, examining it and saying, “Right now, we shouldn’t rush it because of the monster’s high level. Our main focus should be to level up. Then, we can think about how to complete the quest.”

“Okay, you’re the expert here. I’ll listen to you.” After peeking at the map, Zhao Lei asked, “But where should we level up? My level is quite low and the monsters here start at level seven.”

“We’ll head to Sticky Hole. Follow me and I promise your level will skyrocket.” Li Yao locked onto a target, Sticky Hole. The levelling speed there was truly like flying, as long as one’s strength was sufficient.

Li Yao led Zhao Lei along a winding route, avoiding the higher-level monsters. They chatted along the way to their destination.

By the game’s noon, they finally arrived at the Sticky Hole in the northernmost end of Silverpine Forest.

Many giant spiders roamed around the entrance, looking frighteningly terrifying.

As Li Yao led Zhao Lei towards the entrance, he noticed two players but didn’t pay much attention and kept moving.

One of them, a male player, suddenly spoke, “Buddy, it’s better if you don’t go in there.”

Li Yao was taken aback, before turning around and realizng that the two players standing in front of him looked familiar. His mind instantly flashed an image of these two players who were quite famous in his past life….
