Chapter 232: | 232 | TIMESKIP: Part Twenty - Beginning of the Purge

It was a chance for a new beginning.

However, reality was always disappointing. Their dreams for a new life was never a simple goal to attain. The moment they couldn\'t adapt to the new society before them, they huddled together for warmth, building a place for themselves instead.

They were fortunate to have constructed their slums after the departure of the dragon. Otherwise, it wouldn\'t have lasted more than a single thought from their minds if the dragon kept gazing down into the City of Dawn.

It was early in the morning when posters fell from the sky, dropped down by a cargo transport aircraft. In the posters were warning for relocation as the government of dawn had decided to purge out the criminal organizations that had popped up within the slums.

Naturally, the beastfolks residing in the slums were shocked. The government barely attended into their matters, they previously thought they were independent. After all, they had already built a place for themselves, a place they could call home.

But nevertheless, they built their dwelling in the land of the United World Government. And it will take it back, for it wouldn\'t be merciful against conquerors.

"What do we do? They are giving us two days to prepare!"

"I must warn our boss about this!"

"Damn it, they are trying to exterminate us!"

Crime-affiliated individuals were the most affected by the news as their organization would be affected by the relocation project of the World Government. Their gangs would be stripped apart from power, its members thrown away, leaving to rot beside the streets of Dawn.

The reactions was the same throughout the slums. Many didn\'t want to leave their homes. After all, they had already invested too much to build it. Although their way of life wasn\'t satisfactory, there was no going back now.

Within one of the crime den within the slums, a beastfolk ran forward, panting for air and exhausted by dashing as fast as possible to the den. He gazed forward, staring at an individual sitting on a throne of some kind. "Boss, the World Government is beginning to act."

"They are starting some strategy to purge us."

The lone beastfolk felt shivers as this was the greatest threat they had ever gone through. Fighting against gangs for territory in the slums had never felt so foreboding to him compared to this. It was as if death was beginning to creep into their door steps.

"The government purging us, huh?"

"They must think that those puny officers could handle the slums. Foolish and arrogant bastards!" The boss of the gang slammed his fist into the wall, annoyed by the government that had dared to impede the existence of his gang.

There was no way they would be willing to get exterminated without fighting back. They weren\'t cowards who weren\'t willing to die, especially when they had gone through hell to reach the so-called dawn of their lives.

Hearing the words of the boss, the surrounding members became agitated, cursing the World Government with what ever curse they could conjure. It wasn\'t simply one gang, desiring to fight against whatever occupation that the UWG plans to do.

All of the gangs were willing to fight for their existence in the slums. Something that would have never happened several months ago. The relocation of the settlers would bring about untold chaos. But the path for peace was never a clean one.

The Dragon of Liberation had returned, its nest beginning to be filled with filth. Obviously, it would burn every filth that it could see and fell, which was all of the filth in the nest.

But bureaucracy was a complicated process. Even the Dragon of Liberation would have to build the logistics in undertaking such task. There might also be others in the government, resistant against the purge of the slums. But the dragoness was never someone who would shy away from conflict.

So, a confrontation was enacted.

In the headquarters of the Special Response Division, Laplace walked through the hall, her steps steady and calm. Nonetheless, each of her steps resounded throughout the hall, calling about her presence, which forced everyone within to kneel.

A cold expression smeared all over her face, disappointment and disgust clearly evident throughout her entirety. The members of the Special Response Division felt chills as her words soon echoed in the silent hall filled to the brim with dominance.

"I have returned, and I see nothing but filth in my eyes. What has become of my division? For it to fall from grace, nothing more but a parasite seeping into the resources of the World Government. I didn\'t train any of you to be lazy, so I expect some explanation for this."

"Otherwise, I will personally disband this organization and build another one from the ground up. I have all the time in the world to do so, along with the authority." Her voice was laced with piercing words, she was clearly in the bad mood.

Laplace shook her head and continued walking, reaching the elevator of the hall. The elevator slid open as she entered, pushing the button up. As the elevator closed, climbing upward, silence remained in the hall of the Special Response Division.

The emergence of the dragoness was something they didn\'t expect. Although not many knew of the reason regarding her departure, they weren\'t ignorant about her pregnancy. They merely thought of it as her spending some time away with the Authority of the World Government.

At any rate, none could utter a single word. They understood that the dragoness was disappointed by what the Special Response Division had become. Hailing as one of the popular military organizations in the United World Government since the beginning, it had fallen from its standing since her departure.

There was also the policies of its current acting leader to not disturb the natural order of Dawn City, which was where its was based at. Policies which the Dragon of Liberation would have eradicated as she was part of the reason why criminal activities was at its lowest in Dawn City.

Returning to Laplace, she stood in the elevator, tapping her foot on the floor. She was impatient, ready to punish the bastard that was running the Special Response Division.

"Espada, I didn\'t let you become the leader of the Special Response Division to throw its hard work to the mud." She muttered to herself, remembering why she had made the Special Response Division as it was.

Laplace wanted to assure that the beastfolks had some power within the society her husband was building. Through the Special Response Division, they would be making a difference in the country, not some random saps awaiting for damnation.

As the elevator reached the top floor of the headquarters, its metallic doors slid open. Stepping out of the elevator, she found herself in a familiar long-winded hallway. Turning her attention to the direction of her office, the dragoness walked towards it with wrath.

Opening the doors to her office, she saw Espada, the acting leader of the Special Response Division. An expression of surprised was all over his face as she walked towards him with anger. "Espada, tell me a reason why I shouldn\'t cripple you?"

"M-Major Laplace... I- I wasn\'t trying to undermine your hard wor-" Before Espada could continue, Laplace slammed her fist into his table, breaking it into pieces in mere moments. "You bastard! What the hell are you trying to do with the Special Response Division?"

"I didn\'t intend to overstep my bounds. I just didn\'t want the Special Response Division to handle lower problems that weren\'t against a militarized enemy." Espada stated his reasons as he merely made sure that the division remains on its goal to take down the Magus.

"What the- What kind of bullshit is that? Lower problems? Do you think you\'re some kind of god of some sort?" Laplace couldn\'t believe what she was hearing. While the Special Response Division was a military organization, its members were citizens of the United World Government.

Regardless of reasons, they could aide law enforcement in suppressing crime when possible. The moment they stop doing so, the division would become disconnected with society, detached from its people.

"Alright, get the hell out of my office. Don\'t let me throw you out through the windows." She could barely calmed herself down. While not helping wasn\'t a problem, directly issuing policies that forbade doing so was beyond foolish.

It was the decision of the members whether they wish to aide the people of the UWG or not. And she didn\'t teach them to be heartless bastards who only knew war.

Espada scurried out from the office as the dragoness walked towards the windows, standing in front of it. The society of the United World Government was beginning to be detached with one another. It was the same as the countries she had seen before.

And those countries had long become ruins forgotten in the annals of time.

The United World Government must not fall to the degradation from divide. It seems that she would have to talk with her husband about this. Dawn City was beginning to collapse under the pressure, it wouldn\'t be able to handle more.

They needed time to stabilize, otherwise anarchy would soon follow.

The borders must be closed.
